Yellow Poplar

Liridendron Tulipifera

Also called tulip tree or tulip poplar. This species is actually in the magnolia family and has beautiful orangish-yellow flowers in the spring. The four lobe leaves look like a tulip. This trees fast growth potential and flowers make it a popular pick for landscape designers.
Yellow poplar’s fast growth has earned the species the title of second largest hardwood species in the Appalachian region, first place goes to the mighty american sycamore. Unlike the american sycamore, yellow poplar is a major component in the hardwood lumber market. The wood is light yet strong which make it a perfect option for upholstered furniture. Yellow poplar’s white sapwood and light density make it popular for molding, trim, and cabinets.
